Victorious Thursday for Crusader Athletics!
Congratulations to the varsity baseball team for its 8-3 win over Ruston last night at Barrow Stadium. The offense was led by Brennan Stuprich ’20 and John Morgan III ’20. The outstanding pitching of Brandon Bonura ’19 and Mayson Keene ’21 limited the Bearcats to 3 runs. Defensively, the Crusaders turned 3 double plays and threw out a runner at home plate to end a Bearcat rally. The team returns to action tonight in the WGNO Classic Baseball Tournament at Wesley – Barrow Stadium for 7:00 p.m. when they play Fontainebleau.
The varsity basketball team concluded regular season play with a 51 – 46 win at Newman last night. Dillon Delatte ’19 led the Crusaders with 14 points and 10 rebounds. T. J. Small ’20 added 12 points, and Victor Tomlinson ’19 had 7 points and 4 assists. Both Peter Schneller ’19 and Shane Griffin ’20 had 6 points in the game. The Crusaders begin the playoffs on Tuesday night against the Rummel Raiders at 7 p.m. in the Conlin Gym. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for children, students are $5 with your ID and faculty get in at no charge with your ID.
The bowling team ran their record to a season total of 10-0 by defeating Salmen with a score of 7-0. The team was lead by Hunter Dunn ’19 with a 229 and a 234, Drew Gardner ’21 with a 222, 297, and a 697 series, and Cody Schaffer ’19 with a game of 243, 236 and 205 and a 684 series as well as Will Oertling ’19 with a 223.
Coming off of last year’s state runner-up season, the Crusader Tennis team returned to action yesterday at UNO picking up right where they left off by defeating Lusher in dominating fashion with a score of 7-0. The team swept all four singles lines and all three doubles lines. To ensure the shutout, Matthew Armbruster ’21 defeated Lusher’s top seed who is ranked in the top 50 in the nation. The tennis team will take on Newman next Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at UNO.
