Admissions Frequently Asked Questions:
Below are answers to some of the most common questions families ask when applying to Brother Martin High School.
Please do not hesitate to contact the Admissions Office at (504) 283-1561 (ext. 3022) with questions about Brother Martin High School or the Admissions process for incoming students.
Q: What are your 8th and 9th grade admissions considerations? CollapseA: The student’s desire to attend Brother Martin, the cumulative elementary school record, recommendations of elementary school principals and teachers, and a personal interview.
Q: Is it better for my son to enter Brother Martin as an 8th or 9th grader? ExpandA: Incoming 9th graders are not at a disadvantage and go through the same admissions process as incoming 8th graders, but every 8th grade student at Brother Martin will receive at least 3 1/2 high school credits and will, therefore, be eligible for additional courses/electives prior to graduation.
Q: What are my son’s chances of getting into Brother Martin if he goes to public school? ExpandA: Public school students go through the same admissions process with the same considerations.
Q: Do you have academic tracking? ExpandA: Students are scheduled year-to-year based on individual needs. Students can be in both honors classes and academic classes during the same school year. Brother Martin offers a college prep curriculum in three levels of classes: Advanced Placement, Honors, and Academic. We do not offer remedial classes.
Q: What and where is Application Day? ExpandA: Students applying for 8th & 9th grades are required to attend Application Day on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Brother Martin High School. Please note that a $30 non-refundable application fee will be collected on Application Day. Brother Martin does not use the results of these tests for the acceptance or non-acceptance of applicants, but rather to help with the academic placement of each applicant for the upcoming school year. The results will also be used in consideration for academic scholarships.
Q: Do you offer an Academic Scholarship Program? ExpandA: Yes. Any student who applies to Brother Martin has also applied for an academic scholarship; there is not a separate scholarship application. The criteria for scholarship eligibility includes: elementary school grades, standardized test scores, a record of conduct, and a composite score earned on the placement test administered at Brother Martin. The Scholarship Committee meets in April after students have completed the high school application process including receiving their official acceptance letter and officially registering to attend Brother Martin High School.
Q: Do you offer Financial Aid? ExpandA: Yes. Financial assistance is based on need and is in the form of a Work-Study/Grant. Financial assistance applies to tuition only, not to registration fees. Financial assistance is discussed only after a student is accepted into Brother Martin, not during the admissions process.
