Allison Staiger, LCSW Explains “Understanding Adolescent Stress & Anxiety”

Brother Martin High School hosted the 2nd quarter Parent-Teacher Visitation on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, along with the Parents Club meeting and social. The visitation and social were held before our Crusaders’ break for the Thanksgiving Holiday and 1st semester exams, a time of year that can create stress and anxiety in the lives of both adults and students.

In order to help parents better deal with their sons’ stress and anxiety, Brother Martin welcomed Ms. Allision Staiger, LCSW to share her knowledge of adolescent stress and anxiety. Parents gained insight about our young adults’ need for recovery time and letting them be true to themselves.  During the presentation, Ms. Staiger also encouraged parents to look for the signs and symptoms such as feeling disconnected, procrastination, etc. In addition, she pointed out the differences between healthy and unhealthy anxiety and gave parents some strategies to deal with both. Some of Ms. Staiger’s recommendations included acknowledging and validating the levels of stress, realizing that their priorities and values may differ from their children, and helping young people to strategize where they can place their energy.

We would like to thank Ms. Staiger for taking time to offer her expertise to our school community. Her knowledge will help us all to be better Partners in Mission.
