Baseball Widens Gap in District Title Race
Tuesday night, the Brother Martin baseball squad (23-5, 7-0) won its ninth consecutive game to protect its two-game lead in the race for the District 9-5A title. Jacob Seward, Daniel Lahare, Tyler Zamjahn helped lead the Crusaders to a 3-0 victory against Rummel at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
The Crusaders got started early to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Seward singled the opposite way to left field, advanced to second on the play via an error and moved to third on a failed pickoff, attempt before scoring on Ducote’s ground out to short. In the third inning, Jacob Seward was able to draw a two-out walk to get him on base. Seward advanced to second on third on a pair of throwing errors during a pickoff attempt and scored on the first of two RBI singles by Lahare. Brother Martin’s 3rd run of the game also came from an RBI single from Lahare which scored Seward.
Tyler Zamjahn (4-1) surrendered four hits and struck out five during six scoreless innings of work. Andrew Boucvalt entered the game in relief and pitched a perfect seventh inning to seal the victory.
Brother Martin will play Rummel again at 7:00 pm on Friday in a key match-up at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
