Crusader Band Entertains Guests at Spring Concert

DSC07322Members of the Brother Martin Symphonic Band, Novice Band, and Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Dominick Caronna ’85 and Mr. Chris Bailey ’86, held their annual spring concert on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. This year, over 500 guests entered the Jefferson Performing Arts Center in Metairie and were in for a special surprise as members of the Drum Line were elevated from the orchestra pit to the stage as part of the grand finale!  Mr. Bailey and the Symphonic Band began the evening performing musical pieces such as “Gibraltar March” by Patrick Wilson, “The Lost Lady Found” by Percy Aldridge Grainger and adapted by Michael Sweeney, “Monmouth Overture” by Michael Sweeney, and “Cheap Thrills” by Sia Furler, arranged by Michael Brown. The Novice Band brought guests through a wild musical adventure with “Pirates of the Caribbean” by Klaus Badelt, arranged by the Band’s First Semester Student Teacher, Mr. Ian Wright. Senior Drum Major Chandler Dupuy stepped on the raised podium with his baton, and conducted the Concert Band on their performance of “Mt. Everest” by Rossano Galante. In this piece the Band and audience are transported to, and climb the highest mountain in the world!  The Concert Band also performed songs such as “Semper Fidelis” and “Foundry.” The night was also filled with an aura of Hollywood as the Band played “John Williams In Concert” by John Williams, and arranged by Paul Lavender.

The Crusader Band Program bestows several yearly awards, given at the concert. Besides medals given for Superior ratings at the LMEA Solo & Ensemble Assessment and our Merit Awards, Crusader Seniors received these top awards:  for Service, Brenten Dupuy  and Christopher Puyau,  For Seniority and Longevity, Brenten Dupuy, Chandler Dupuy, Nathan Long, and Justin Levy. The District VI Marty Hurley Percussion Award was awarded to Guillermo Valladares. Outstanding Musicianship was awarded to Justin Levy and Michael Lopez.  For the John Philip Sousa Award, Ryan O’Rourke and Samuel Martinez.  For the Director’s Award, Chandler Dupuy and Samuel Martinez.  In addition, for service to the Crusader Band, seniors also received their First Annual Senior Instrument Pin.

A special thanks to all our parents, band members, and Directors, Dominick Caronna ‘85 and Chris Bailey ’86 for a wonderful school year!

Our life and faith, our worship free.
O Sacred Heart, O Sacred Heart,
We pledge to Thee
Our all in loving loyalty.
