Crusaders Complete the Sweep
The Crusaders started the weekend off with a rematch of Wednesday’s game against Jesuit. Jesuit captured the lead first in the bottom of the second scoring on a view singles and errors. Brother Martin was able to answer back with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Jacob Seward lead-off the inning with a walk then scored on a triple hammered to the left-center field gap by Daniel Lahare to make it 3-1. Cody Ducote plated Lahare with a sacrifice fly to center to make it 3-2.
In the top of the fourth as Jarett Gongora drew a leadoff walk to start the inning. Brice Johnston beat out a sacrifice bunt which the throw sailed over the head of the first baseman advancing both runners to second and third. Blake Battle singled home Johnston to tie the game 3-3, then Seward roped a single to center which got past the Jesuit center fielder, scoring Battle making it 4-3. With two outs, Cody Ducote lined an RBI single, scoring Seward to make it 5-3 Brother Martin.
The Crusaders added the final run of the game when Ducote expanded the lead to 6-3 in the top of the sixth inning with a solid RBI single to right field, scoring Seward, who had walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Corey Gaconi, who allowed no earned runs on eight hits, no walks, and five stike outs over seven innings of work, got the win.
