CyberPatriot Teams Win State Awards

2016-2017 BMHS CyberPatriot TeamsThe CyberPatriot team recently concluded an exceptional round of competition in the ninth season of CyberPatriot – the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition.

The CyberPatriot field is divided into three divisions – the Open Division(public, private and home school teams), the All Service Division for JROTC (Civil Air Patrol and Naval Sea Cadet Corps teams) and the Middle School Division. CyberPatriot IX teams are categorized within their divisions as Platinum, Gold, or Silver Tier teams, with the Platinum Tier teams representing the highest scoring teams. Brother Martin fields two teams—an All Service team made up of Cadets in the school’s NJROTC program and an Open team. The All Service team was placed in the Platinum Tier and the Open team was seeded in the Gold Tier this season based on their scores from two preliminary rounds held earlier in the academic year.

In all, 4,404 teams registered to compete in CyberPatriot IX, including 38 teams from Louisiana.

Moderators Commander Bruce Nolan ’91 and Mr. Craig Zeller ’02 led the two teams that excelled in the CyberPatriot IX State Round held January 13-15. This past weekend, the All Service team’s performance earned a second place AFA Louisiana State Award and a spot in the Platinum Tier Category Round. The Open Division team took first place in the state in their division and also earned them a spot in the Regional Round held the same weekend. Complete scores for the Category/Regional will not be released for a few weeks, but both teams scored well enough to secure Top 10 spots in their separate divisions.
